I and Love and You

Album Description
There is no harmony like brotherly harmony. Something indelible in the weave of voices and play of sensibilities is stamped into the fraternal DNA and also stems from a lifetime of shared experiences. You can hear it in classic brother acts across the musical spectrum, from the Louvin Brothers to the Everly Brothers and on down the decades through the Wilson brothers (Beach Boys), the Davies brothers (Kinks), the Allman Brothers and even the Brothers Gibb (a.k.a., th… More >>

OMG like my brother is so totally into music, like he has RECORDS even. LOL! He’s so cool, he has this little turntable and it’s SOOOO cool! We totally used it for the 90’s party. ANYWAY. So he had this new CD, I know, I know, those things are soooo cool, nobody has em anymore, but he does, cause he’s like totally original! He even has a FLIP phone, with a little antenna. So ANYWAY. This CD was sitting on the counter and I was like, WHAT IS THIS COVER! IT’S SOOO gross. I mean, what IS that? I mean it’s kind of gothic or something. ANYWAY. So he played it and I was like, wow! That is so cool, it sounds like Bonnaroo or something, you know, hippies! And of course he was like, WHATEVER! So anyway, I totally liked it, it’s real mellow and everything, like I play it when I am going to sleep, it’s sort of like, you know, I mean it’s ALMOST country, which is NOT cool. OMG there’s this song, I swear it sounds like something my parents would like, but ANYWAY, I downloaded it and put it on my Facebook, and my friends are like, NO WAY! THAT SONG IS SOO COOL! So now I can link it to my MySpace, and my friend Heather tweeted me, she’s like AWESOME! Anyway, I just like it, I don’t know, it’s like, you know? LOL!

OMG I ALMOST FORGOT! One of them is TOTALLY HOT and I cant wait to see them in concert, I’m going to DIE if I don’t get to see them! OMG he looks hotter than David Archuleta I can’t WAIT to see him!!!1!1 I hope they’re as good as Dave Matthews LOL!

  2. Meghan M. Hodges Said,

Where did the Avetts go??? This cd lacks both the energy and enthusiasm of their previous releases. I found the cd to be very boring and forgetable. The only thing it makes me think is sell outs.

  3. C. Saalfrank Said,

Rick Ruben must’ve ruined this album. The instrumentation is too pop-like. Where’s the energy? The songs used to seem timeless and now they’re evolving into the blah of the masses. I don’t listen to the radio for a reason… it’s terrible. I’ve been to 5 live shows and they always have more energy than the albums, but if I went to a show and it came across like this album I would walk out. Rick Ruben, please give us back the Avett brothers!

  4. W. Mackey Said,

I had really been looking forward to this record since hearing they were going to be recording with Rick Rubin. Upon hearing some of the new songs live I was even more excited. Then I heard the record.

Where is the banjo? Where is Seth?

Much of the album sounds more like Scott Avett and Friends, not The Avett Brothers. Seth is reduced to a distant backup singer in many of the songs. Much of the greatness that is The Avett Brothers is Scott and Seth Avett’s wonderful harmonies. For the most part, these are completely absent here.

If you want an Avett Brothers album, and you should, buy ANY of the others. Live, Vol. 2, Mignonette, Four Thieves Gone: The Robbinsville Sessions, Emotionalism, The Gleam, Second Gleam (Dig), they are all much better than this one.

It’s The Avett Brothers’ heart that has brought them where they are. But sadly, you won’t find much of it here.

  5. S. Rosen Said,

Great album – the Avett Brothers have kept their energy, and earnestness and stellar vocals, shaved off a few edges, and crafted some beautiful, thoughtful ballads. I’m sure old fans may lament this major label debut as straying from the band’s essence, but as a relative newcomer, I think this is a natural progression from their last, wonderful CD, Emotionalism. One of the best albums I’ve heard this year from band with a very bright future.
