THIS IS THE WORST I TELL YOU ^ AND IF I HAD THE OPTION I WOULD TAKE 1 CENT OF CASH OVER THIS ALBUM ^ IT IS SO STINKY CHEESE. I COULD MAKE A LIST OF 1000 THINGS OF MORE VALUE THAN ONE SONG OFF THIS CD. THE LIST WOULD START OFF WITH GOAT CHEESE AND BEEF JERKEY ^ AND I WOULD EVEN TAKE MY OLD UNCLE EARLS SCOOTER EVEN THOUGH IT DOESN’T FIT ME WELL. THE LIST GOES ON AND ON AND ON. SAVE YOUR CASH AND BUY SOME GOOD Ol’ GOAT CHEESE INSTEAD OF THIS ALBUM!

I am surprised that she is at # 1. I sampled few of her songs, the sonded boring and lifeless. Very old fashioned, made me feel old and sleepy.

After seeing Rosanne Cash at the #1 spot on the charts I had to listen to some of the samples of her album to see why. Well, while it was pleasant to listen to, I kept comparing the selections to the original artists and asked myself would I want to buy this album. Sorry the answer is NO. I know they are only covers but just not what I expected. It’s okay but not #1… IMO.

Rosanne Cash has still got it and these cover songs on “The List” prove it. She has put on some weight over the years and pound for pound, I’d say she is now one of the heaviest singers in today’s country music. Even though she is considered by the music industry to be an old lady at 54, and unworthy to be on American Idol by Simon Cowface, she is kicking donkey (get it? huh?). My favorite cuts are Hank Snow’s “I’m Moving On” and Bruce Springsteen’s “Sea of Heartbreak”. I had to lower my rating to three, because she hornswoggled us and didn’t cover any Shania Twain songs! Sheesh!

Up front, let me say, I love Rosanne Cash and have a huge respect for her as a person and musician. And the back story to this album simply cannot be beat. Wow what a story! That is why it is such a disappointment. How can you take songs picked by her father as some of the 100 most important songs in our musical heritage and make them boring. It is worse than that. They are completely soulless and that is just sad. She adds nothing, she fails to capture the essence of the song, there is not a bit of the southern soul that all these songs are steeped in. Just too bad.
Maybe it because here husband produced it. I don’t wish to sound at all derogatory here but how does a Jewish New Yorker begin to understand the southern soul of these songs? I think this may be the core problem. None of the music captures anything of the soul of the songs nor do they drive the singing to any inspired heights.
I was waiting for this album to come out since I first heard about it and just hate to say that is really is just nothing, not bad, not good, just so what and that is a crying shame.
